Check that your firewall settings isn't the problem. Maybe try disabling Firewall and reboot.

What do you have displayed in Network Connections? it may be helpful if you would post a screen shot of the Network Connections window.

Restored hard drive and it fixed it, many hours later.

Not to be predicting doom, but something caused it to begin with and the possibilities are many. The problem could recur.
