Solved: sound card driver
Because my system crashed and I needed to re install windowsXP, I lost all of my drivers. I have gotten most of them back, but

I went to
http://tinyurl.com/yj8kayh

where it seems it has all my drivers, but I get a a file with a .application extension, and my computer has no idea what to do about it. Does anyone have an idea what to do?

My Service Tag: CH04P

The file I keep getting is DellDriverDownloadManager.application

That service tag number brings up a Dell OptiPlex GXa desktop, which is a dinosaur.

Your computer specs shows HP and Toshiba laptops.

The Dell site didn't accept service tag number CHA04P51 - which didn't surprise me because it has too many characters.

I tried CH04P51, and that number is registered to a Dell Dimension 3000 desktop. Is that the correct number and the correct model Dell?

go to the dell website look under support drivers and downloads then type in dimension desktop then 3000 then windows xp drivers and they should all be there. the main ones are audio, video, wireless and chipset.download all of them and burn them to a cd so u will have them for the next time. then install them and u should be good to go.then check the device mgr to make sure u dont have any yellow question marks. if u do hit the thing that says update drivers and go from there. hope this helps u.

csatennis:

Use this link to obtain the needed drivers because it's specific to your service tag number and makes it easier to obtain the correct drivers.

Follow pishbloom2's advice about downloading and saving and burning off to a CD-R the needed drivers so you'll have them available if they're needed again in the future.
