Solved: Is there a program to redo genres labeling?
I searched this on Google and found nothing, but i'm simply looking for a program that will relabel every single one of my trance songs as "trance" and not a 100 different other things like "tech trance," "vocal trance," "pop trance" etc.

I want to be able to select a group of songs, like say, "select all" of my trance tracks in itunes or whatever program, then somehow relabel all of the genres to trance to make it easier to browse by genre.

Or perhaps theres a program where one can select an entire hard drive sub-directory, say "metal" and have the program relabel all the genres I.D's to "metal'?

Is there anything like that will do it automatically? I have over 200gb+ in music and I cannot do this manually! Thank you for your time. :-)

What you're looking for is called a tag editor; I haven't used it, but this one seems to come up fairly high in google. Other possibilities here.

I've looked "Mp3tag" before, just earlier today actually, but I didn't think it was what I was looking for. Isn't there a difference betyween a "tag" and a genre? Either, I think I will give it a try, it looks simple. Thank you for the rec, Midders!

With 200gb+ in music you definitely need a tag editor and Mp3tag is a very good one.

Tags are small chunks of data that contained inside the Mp3 file at the front of the file. Genre is one of those tags, but there are many others like Artist, Album, Track Number, Track Name and Release Year.

That can also be done right from within Explorer

Select all the files, right click, click Properties.
Click the Summary tab
If needed, click the Advanced>> button
you'll see Genre (multiple values) (if the selected files have different values)
Click on (multiple values) and type what you want
Click OK

Good to know. I've just tried this (XP Pro SP3) and it seems very odd to me that you can only modify the tags when you have selected multiple files with different vaules. I'd have thought that virtually the same code could be used to edit the tags on individual files. Oh well, you know what thought did...

You can select just one file, or many. I know of no reason you wouldn't be able to edit just one file.

Ok, my bad; I've just tried it again and it worked. Must have been finger trouble. Doh!
