Help: Need software to restrict access.
Hi Guys
Need some help desperately! At work my team have an extra PC which we share. If we get new TV eps etc we upload it, so we can share the files. (almost like a server, although it's a normal PC) Time and time again, we find that copying and uploding files taking eons and we discover that other users are logged on and copying the files. We running WindowsXP on the PC, while our laptops all have VISTA. We have set-up the access and security so that only we have access to this PC but we still finding others are able to log on here and copy our files.
Is there any free software we can install on the PC to only allow us access to these files? Maybe one that requires the user to enter a password to access the files???

How about configuring the NTFS and Share permissions so that only specific users can access files on the shared, you can also specify Deny rights to non-authorised users.

That sounds like the easiest way, put a password on the sharing of the drive and that should fix your issue

That link can help you out you can associate user accounts that can access the network folder if you know a little bit about user and group settings the above link can explain it faster then I can, I thought in sp2 you could do it right from the dialog box but maybe I was wrong and it was removed in sp3
