Backup: off-site storage solutions?
For the last year or so I used the following as my backup strategy in case of fire/water damage: take weekly backups on a slim portable drive that I lock up in water and fire proof safe.

I'm starting to think of leveraging technology and putting the whole backup on auto-pilot, so I had the idea of using the following strategy:

1) Daily incremental backups of entire system on external hard drive that's always hooked up to the computer (and not protected from disaster)
2) Daily incremental backups of important files only (<10GB) on online storage

Any thoughts on this strategy? What solutions do I have available?
I'm thinking:

1) Acronis True Image online backup - 25 GB for $5/month; apparently should be pretty easy to use.
2) Some kind of cloud storage that I can just map as a drive and do incremental backups to it.
3) Other?

Fabrik Home Backup offers 2GB free or unlimited for $4.95/month, and adrive.com offers 50gb free, but doesn't support automated backup with the free version.

Other options:
- use an external hard drive encrypted with TrueCrypt and store it at work or a neighbour's house.
- USB flash drive on your keyring for essential data (keep all your online passwords with KeePass etc.)
- if you're in range of any other wireless networks, ask around to find out who owns them and have a reciprocal backup arrangement.

I think the other options are a bit too much hassle. Thanks for references though, I'll check them out.

In addition to onsite external drives, I have online backup which I do weekly, with BackBlaze.
Unlimited size, $5.00/month or $50.00/year. I am pleased with them. (No, I'm not affiliated with them in any way -- just a subscriber.) (A fast connection is desirable if you have a lot of files.)
