I have had this issue before and it turns out I just had a pop-up behind my main browser window - although I suppose you have probably checked for that.

Just for a go, close your browser windows and restart your computer, and try to reproduce the sound again. If you are still hearing the sound it would be useful to know the browser you are using and the specific sites/videos you are getting it on.

hi there, I am using mozilla firefox. The specific site that I first heard it in was youtube--I have restarted my computer and the thunder and Lightening still pops up randomly. This all just started last night when I was watching youtube videos. But when I was replying to you it just popped up again! soozie-g

Right ok, is it the latest version (3.5) or the 3.6 beta? If its the beta it might be a bug, but never heard of any bug like that. Have you downloaded anything recently that may have something like that buried into it, maybe a toolbar for IE or something?

Possibly could also be an add-on to Firefox, so you might want to check those. Are you sure it only occours when you are browsing in Firefox?

EDIT: More ideas ~ try closing out of Firefox and just browse about on your computer for 10 minutes or so, see if the noise happens then, if it does, it is not Firefox related. If it is Firefox related then go to Start > All Programs > Firefox > Firefox (safe mode/addons disabled) then go to a specific Youtube video you know makes the sound and see if it does then. If it doesn't then its most likely an add on problem - if it does then its probably an internet issue, in which case you should try the same video in IE or another browser.

Sorry for the poor grammer in the last paragraph - I'm tired :P
