How do I turn coded files that I downloaded from my phone into text

How do I turn the downloaded phone files from codes into text or images? I have a Motorola Razorback, Verizon is my carrier. I used Bitpim software for the download. Neither Verizon, or Motorola were of any help, unless of course I purchased their software!
