Solved: Need help with Windows 7 Explorer
My Windows 7 installation has been running well but when I booted up a while ago and tried to use Windows Explorer, an error message popped up. It said "this file does not have a program associated with it....." and then went on to say "Create an association in default program control panel".

I tried this but did not find a way to associate it with any program. I would not know what to associate it with anyway.

I tried a "repair installation" by booting to the Windows 7 CD and it went through the process but did not fix this problem. I did not see any attempt to repair it after the reboot. It did say there was a problem with Windows 7 but only said to reboot. I could have gone back to the Windows CD on the reboot since I am running a dual boot setup but did not think that would help.

I am running a dual boot with Windows XP.

Anyone know how to fix this?

I just restored this.

Before I posted this, I searched for a fix and could not find anything.

After posting, I used different search terms and found many others with the same problem which was missing registry entries.

Luckily, I watched a TV movie and then had a thought. Before this happened, I had just run Check-It registry cleaner and then later rebooted. That is when the problem started.

I opened Check-It again and restored the entries it had deleted and all is well now. It is running perfectly again.

I had disk images but the most recent was four days old. Now, it is not needed at this time.

These registry cleaners will get you almost every time.
You will find that there is NOT a lot of people around here are in favor of using them.
