I recently downloaded Vuze so I could torrent a few films (legally, non-copyrighted). For some reason, the download speed is ridiculously low. It is only about 500 bytes/sec [that's right, I said bytes!!!].

My usual download speed is anywhere between 50 and 400 kbps for all other applications (like Firefox). And if I simultaneously download something from the internet while Vuze is running, the integrity of my internet download is unaffected.

Also, I use healthy torrents with several seeds and peers. So far, they usually have between 12-44 seeds.

I don't have a clue what my problem is. Any suggestions or solutions would work.

i think reading the rules might be in order. we dont help with torrents and other p2p programs. sorry.
