Question How to Convert a .dba File to a .csv File?
My Palm One Tungsten E2 is getting less and less useful, especially now that I own an Android mobile phone (driven by Google software). I have researched trying to convert my calendar files on Palm (in dba format) to csv format, which is the format of Google's calendar. There is a piece of software that will do it, but its price (while okay if it were to be used often) seems high, since I will use the conversion but once.

Is there an easy way, shortcut, trick, or otherwise for converting a dba file to a csv file--in order to import into Google calendar?

Thanks!

Have you tried importing it into Excel? Or Open Office?

I tried opening it in Excel. Had to force it (since it wouldn't open the .dba file, but when it DID open it, it was full of signs and symbols. Even if it opened legibly, what good would that do? It would still need to be saved as .csv.
Thanks for the suggestion. It was a great idea.

Nobody said to open it.
Import is quite different. Unfortunately, this sounds like a binary file, so you may be out of luck.
Look under Data/Import, but I'm not optimistic.

I looked at all the options there, and there was no allowance for importing a .dba file.
Thanks, though, for the suggestion. There is a piece of software that supposedly converts the dba to csv.
I guess I had best give up on transferrig my large date book folder into my new Droid phone.

Is there no "Export" function in your Palm software?

Yes, there IS an export function--but it only allows exporting the datebook and calendar in .dba format!
Alas.

Take a look at the file types under export and see if there isn't another choice, like csv or tab delimited.

For CONTACTS, there are FOUR (4) options for export. For the CALENDAR, there is ONLY ONE (1) option, the .dba format!
