USB devices AND webcam not working
Alright guys, I really need your help.
I have been searching for the solution to this for DAYS and nothing. I asked a friend and they said something about the motherboard, but I am hoping that is not the problem.
Ever since December it hasn't recognized USB devices and I get the message in the first picture. My webcam also won't connect, but my keyboard and touchpad work fine.
I uninstalled the drivers in the DM but to no avail they just reappeared when I tried to plug my devices in again after rebooting. I also tried to manually direct it to the drivers folder in the system32 file. After I plug in a device it shows picture number 2 below. I have heard 'reinstall windows' but I can't backup my stuff cause I can't connect anything......? Any suggestions on how to fix this? PLEASE PLEASE! Also how do you know how many bit your motherboard is? I have also read this could be the problem (but my computer is not new so I doubt it)...
I have included various pictures that may help
btw

lol I am even willing to make a pie for anyone who helps me fix this, and my pies are damn good!

Thank you wtx! I did and immediately informed the woman that my computer was no longer under warranty. Apparently this information is irrelevant....Thank goodness I stayed on the phone for 20min only to have her tell me my computer was no longer under warranty... glad we cleared that up. There has to be someone else out there with this problem! Anyone?! PLEASE! !! Don't give up on me!

Have you tried unplugging the power cord & removing the batttery for say half an hour? Read some of the threads on hp's forums. Might find something useful there.

doesn't your laptop have a recovery partition with your os on it? don't know of anywhere that you can download a legal copy of any os.

FYI, your HP looks to be under the badly named HP Limited Service Enhancement plan(aka who cares if our products break due to a known issue, were not going to do a recall even though we should plan) : http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...c01300427_dv64
While USB issues are not part of the acknowledge issue, pretty much everything in these lines has issues. You should do the BIOS update and go up to the latest BIOS version as well as update all the drivers from the HP site for your exact model.

Also try uninstalling the USB Hubs, first, then the USB Controllers in Safe Mode with all USB devices disconnected, then reboot and let the drivers reinstall. And only then plug in one USB device at a time.

haven't been much help, but you're most welcome nonetheless. hang in there! did find this on hp for your laptop model #, have you tried all those things listed in usb troubleshooting? there's also a link there to order a disc for your os.

Troubleshoot error message "Activation failure of BIOS USB"
Check the Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) for legacy USB support. To do this, follow the procedures below:
Restart the computer.
When the first screen displays press F10 repeatedly until the setup screen displays.
Use the Left Arrow and Right Arrow keys to select the Advanced tab. Now use the Up and Down Arrow keys to select Legacy USB Support .
Press Enter , select Enabled , and then press Enter .
Press F10 to save settings and exit. The error message should no longer display.
