email holding bay
I download my Gmail with Outlook Express. When I have exceeded my download limit, I want to delay such downloading till the begining of my new period because there could be bulky items there which would take more time to download than I want to spend on it, but I may still want to send email from Outlook Express. Sending and Receiving are inseparable I think. So I want to hold new email in a folder other than Inbox, because it WOULD be automatically downloaded to Outlook Express from Inbox. Gmail does not have folders - it has lables. What technique can I use to achieve my aim ?

Why download from Gmail? Just view them/save them etc at Gmail?

What is this "download limit" of which you speak? Are you on satellite? Even satellite has a decent download limit, so you must be downloading a lot from elsewhere.
There's nothing to stop you from disabling the gmail account until your new period begins.

I download from GMail because it suits me to have my emails locally.

<<What is this "download limit" of which you speak?
The deal I have with Virgin is : a 2Gb limit/month before the speed is throttled (reduced to dial-up speed).

Satellite ?
My virgin signal comes wirelessly into a modem/router/black(white)box from which I get my phone service and can connect PCs to by ethernet cable or wirelessly.
My normal usage is well-below 2GB, so these days I use up the excess allowance that would otherwise be lost, by downloading extravagantly only on the last day of my period, so that my at most only that day has dial-up speed for my internet access.

I do not want to disable the Gmail - I want to sort ONLY the large incoming files into a holding place for a day, and download the rest into Outlook Express.

Check out Gmail offline:

Choose which messages you download:

Use labels and filters to help specify which email you download.

<<once you enable Offline Gmail from the Labs tab under Settings, you can choose which messages get downloaded. >>
That certainly SEEMS to be the answer I was looking for. Thank you.
