Can someone PLEASE help me get rid of LavaSoft Ad-Aware? I installed it and it totally screwed up my
computer. When I try to un-install it, I get a message saying that I do not have permission to access the
files and cannot proceed. I need to get this program off from my computer.

Are you sure that it's Lavasoft Ad-Aware 8.3.0.0 that you installed, and not a rogue security program that has a similar name?

Well, I used Revo to uninstall it but my computer is still exceptionally slow. This all started when I installed Ad-Aware. I have no idea what the problem might be.

Go here and click the installer link in version 2.0.4 to download and save HiJackThis 2.0.4.

After it's been downloaded and saved, close all open windows first, then double-click the saved file to install it. Allow it to install in its default location.

After it's been installed, start it and then click "Do a system scan and save a log file".

When the scan is finished in less than 30 seconds, a log file will appear. Save that log file.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the entire log file here.

BTW. although Revo says that AdAware was uninstalled, it is still totally there.

Start HijackThis, but don't run a scan.

Click on the "Open The Misc Tools Section" button.

Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button.

Click the "Save List" button.

Save the "uninstall_list.txt" file somewhere. It'll then open in Notepad.

Follow these instructions carefully and take your time.

Click Start - Run, type in SERVICES.MSC and then click OK.

When the services window appears, expand it so you can see the list clearly.

Double-click on the below entries to open their properties window. (Note: You have to do one entry at a time)

Change "Startup Type" to Disabled, then click Apply - OK.

Lavasoft Ad-Aware Service (aawservice)

After you're done, close the services window.

Click Start - Run, type in MSCONFIG and then click OK - Startup(tab).

Remove the checkmark in the below startup entries. (Note: .exe may be missing in the names)

Adobe ARM or AdobeARM.exe

QuickTime Task or qttask.exe

SunJavaUpdateSched or jusched.exe

NvCplDaemon or NvCpl.dll,NvStartup

After you're done, click Apply - OK/Close - Restart.

When the small System Configuration Utility window(see screenshot below) appears during restart, ignore the message.

Put a checkmark in that window before you click OK to close it.

Start HiJackThis, then click "Do a system scan and save a log file".

Save the new log that appears, then copy-and-paste it here.

Trimming down the startup load tends to speed things up a bit, so I'm glad to hear it's working for you.

It looks like you missed a few, so go back and re-read my previous instructions.

Programs that claim to clean/boost/optimize/tuneup a computer are generally worthless and will result in broken programs and a damaged operating system. They do nothing to improve speed or performance. Stay away from them.

File-sharing programs are dangerous for obvious reasons.
