Unhappy Microphone + codec problem
i have a logitech headset.

the speakers works perfectly fine

the microphone:
it works with my laptop [Realtek High Definition Audio CODEC]
it fails to work with my desktop, dell [Sigma Tel High Definition Audio CODEC]

any configurations i can do?
i tried downloading the realtek codec, but it does not seem to be able to work.
[i am not sure how to install properly]

im not sure what else i can do

Welcome to TSG skyblued.

Do you get any errors? What Operating system are you using? If you click on the speaker icon near the clock, do you get a mic volume control?

Nice to be here

Vista.
No errors, the speaker icon has no mic volume control in both my laptop n desktop.

Desktop: Control panel>sounds>recording its on, volume changed from 20/100 to 100/100, but regardless, no change.
when speaking into the microphone no sound is detected.

Laptop: same, but sound is detected and i can hear my own voice.

no configurations on the headsets.

Sounds like the mic jack on the desktop is bad.

damned... thats terrible... though it might be true.
but i used it before actually with the exact same headset, for msn.
my guess is some driver issue against the vista updates.

or maybe someone teach me how to change the codec to Realtek, haha i like Realtek. XD

If you post the make and model of the computer, we can assist in reinstalling the audio drivers. Most desktops have two mic jacks, one in front and another in back. Have you tried both?

Its a Dell N305N-03, 3 years old.
yes i tried both jacks both seem to be in the same problem, so i guess that it is a driver problem.

Have you tried re-installing the device driver for your soundcard?
