Smile External HDD not recognised in Win CE
Please help, a friend of mine has bought a Disgo DISNET3000r (why?) he has tried to plug his 2.5" external HDD in to the USB port but the Windows CE OS will not even recognise it. My opinion is this: Windows CE is an embedded OS and therefore it is held on flash memory so therefore has no need for sata or ide controllers which i believe is the problem but is there a way to get the drive to work or is it a lost cause and all he can use for storage is flash memory....Does anybody have any ideas or does anybody think my thoughts are wrong and know of some other reason why this wont recognise the device???
Any help would be greatly appreciated......

You don't need SATA or IDE for a USB drive. A quick look around suggests this machine should support an external drive, so I suspect the drive is faulty or not getting enough power. You could try a drive with a power supply.
Even better, take advantage of the SD memory slot or use the cloud for storage.
My Dell Mini has a 3 GB SSD and I don't have storage problems because all my files are on Google Docs or my LAN.

It should definitely work. As Hughv said, there is no need for SATA or IDE drivers for the drive. It does not use them. Since external CD-ROM's work on all netbooks I have tried them on, external hard drives should, too.

Is the drive partitioned and formatted? How formatted?

Try it on another machine, but insufficient power is very likely.

As far as convenience goes, a 64 GB SD card is a lot easier to carry around.

Smile Bloody Drive
Yes thanks for your comments guys - The drive is formatted and only has one primary partition and i think its an ntfs file system. Its storage is 250gB but i tried my 2.5" external HDD which is 80Gb and that did'nt register either.....The thing is his laptop died and it needs a new mobo but as he didnt want to shell out to replace it yet he bought this thing with the intention of surfing but has now decided he wants to use and access his files.....But really the Disgo 3000r is not really designed for that purpose. So he really should have thought it through a little better before he bought the damn thing. As you guys know the external 2.5" HDD are powered through the USB cable. So there could be an issue with the power because when i looked at it i dont recall hearing the drive power up. Any more ideas then please let me know. Thanks again, i will let you know the outcome of this when i find the solution.
