Exclamation Compacting Registry
I know Registry Cleaners are the worst thing to ever get as they do more harm then good but are programs that offer to compact the registry harmful or do they pose just as much a threat?

There is NO need in compacting the registry, and yes a compactor can and may mess up the registry.

There is a very experienced person here at TSG who says it is advantageous to compact the Registry and it will do no harm. The poster is wholeheartedly against using cleaners, etc.

A matter of opinion? Who has the facts?

The only Reg tools I use (or have used) are:

ERUNT
NTREGOPT
REGMON or it's successor ProcessMonitor
Oh and Regedit of course
Have occasionally used Eusing's Reg Cleaner to tidy up after bad application uninstalls if I cant be bothered to go searching through the registry myself.
