Question Brother all -in-one won't scan to email
I can't get my Brother MFC 5440CN to scan documents into email.

The software is set up to default to Outlook Express (which I don't use) as the email application. Have tried to change the default (to what I do use, Mozilla Firefox/Gmail) through the Brother Control Center 2.0 dashboard. It gives me an option to reconfigure to an email application other than OE, and asks for the name and location of the application I want to add.

Well, already I am stuck. For the location, I copied the Gmail URL that shows in the address bar when I click into my inbox. For the name, I tried "Gmail" and "Mozilla Firefox Gmail". (Although I'm not even certain if Gmail really even has anything to do with Mozilla Firefox. )

When I enter this, I get a message saying that I've entered an invalid location.

Any help with this will be much appreciated - I was supposed to email some documents out two days ago! - Carol

Hi compconfused,

It is very unlikely you will be able to scan to gmail as the scanner is expecting a windows executable on the local machine.

However the Brother MFC 5440CN does have Internet Fax that may well do what you wish, see http://welcome.solutions.brother.com...9/I-FAX_UG.pdf

Alternatively you could just scan to a graphics program, save the image as a .jpg and attach it to an email in gmail, which wouldn't take days :P

Hi Paladinz, thanks for the idea. Unfortunately, the first thing that has to be done in order to use the internet fax capability is to ensure "a correctly configured IP address for your machine", which is what I couldn't do when I was trying to set up the scan-to-email function.

Yesterday I did finally try scanning to a graphics program and sending the image attached to an email, but I couldn't attach more than one page per email, and the person I sent the documents to said they didn't come through.

I'm going to hand-carry the documents; probably easier and faster in the long run........
