Adobe Reader Not Responding Error
When I open a pdf in Reader 9, I can see the document, but when I try to scroll down or doing anything else with the window, it locks up. When I open Task Manager, Adobe is Not Responding. I also am getting DDE Server Window not shutting down when I try to shut off the computer. I have deleted Adobe Reader, downloaded the updated version and loaded it. When I open it, even before I try to open a file the title line shows "Adobe Reader (Not Responding)." Seems like all other programs are working normally. Found some DCOM 10020 and Service Control Manager 7000 errors in the event viewer. Operating system is XP Pro SP2. Suggestions would be much appreciated.

This will not solve your problem with Adobe but you may want to try Foxit reader or PDF Xchange Viewer (both freeware) to see if the problem is just with Adobe or something with your system. I gave up Adobe long ago due to similar problems and security issues.

Foxit Reader:

PDF Xchange Viewer:

I agree. Get rid of Adobe Reader 9.3.4 and replace it with Foxit Reader 4.1.1.0805.

(Note: It installs a toolbar by default, so go into the installed programs list afterwards and uninstall the toolbar)

If you're still using XP SP2, you need to upgrade to XP SP3. Without the SP3 upgrade, you'll no longer receive new security-related updates and fixes from Microsoft.

Thanks for the suggestions. I went ahead and removed adobe and installed foxit. that seems to be working well accept that it has a little message in the upper right. I will learn to ignore that. Appreciate the assistance.
