Solved: Shockwave and Flash player Freezing
I've had this problem for about 3 days now. Everything that uses adobe shockwave and flash player isn't working properly. For example, youtube videos load completely, but then they begin to buffer about 30-40 seconds in and never move again. The same goes for any site that uses shockwave for videos/games, etc.

I have the latest shockwave and flash installed on my computer. It happens on all 3 browsers I have (IE, Foxfire, Google Chrome). I cleared all caches. I've run maintenance on my computer, including defrag. Obviously I've restarted it again and again.

Now, I have to add that I've had trojans popping up left and right around the same time this has happened. I use BitDefender Antivirus and apparently they've all either been cleaned or quarantined. I don't know a lot about computers, but I have a feeling that doesn't mean they're gone and it's possible that's where my troubles are coming from. The initial trojans were all in the java deployment cache. I initially thought the problem was with java. Perhaps it's all of them. I don't know.

Also, when the adobe programs first started to slow down I uninstalled them and reinstalled them. I had a lot of trouble reinstalling them. Obviously Google Chrome already has them installed. But it took me quite a few tries for IE and Firefox. Particularly Firefox. I kept getting a message that there was a problem with "side by side configuration". Then a few hours ago I tried again and magically it installed. But still with the freezing problem on all 3 browsers.

Just to give you some specs on my computer in case it will help, I'm using an HP Pavilion dv4 PC notebook with Windows 7 64 bit OS.

I'm sorry this is so long, but I wanted to give as much info as possible. I'd appreciate any insight anyone might be able to provide here. Thank you in advance.

Download and save the free version of

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.50.1.1100

SUPERAntiSpyware 4.48.0.1000

then close all open windows first, then install them both, then restart your computer.

Follow these instructions next - carefully and completely.

Start Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.

Click "Updates(tab) - Check for Updates".

When the definition files have updated, click "OK".

Click "Scanner(tab) - Perform quick scan - Scan".

If infections are found during the scan, the number of infections will be highlighted in red.

When the scan is finished, click "Show Results".

Make sure that everything is selected, then click "Remove Selected".

If you're prompted to restart to finish the removal process, click "Yes".

Start Malwarebytes Anti-Malware again.

Click "Logs"(tab).

Highlight the scan log entry, then click "Open".

When the scan log appears in Notepad, copy-and-paste it here.

Start SUPERAntiSpyware.

Click "Check for Updates".

When the definition files have updated, click "Close".

Click "Scan your Computer - Perform Quick Scan - Next".

If infections or problems are found during the scan, a list will appear.

When the scan is finished and the scan summary window appears, click "OK".

Make sure that everything in the list is selected, then click "Next".

If you're prompted to restart to finish the removal process, click "Yes".

Start SUPERAntiSpyware again.

Click "Preferences - Statistics/Logs"(tab).

Highlight the scan log entry, then click "View Log".

When the scan log appears in Notepad, copy-and-paste it here.

-------------------------------------------------------------

A stand-alone antivirus program will not protect your computer anywhere near 100% from all the "nasties" out there.

BitDefender isn't one of the best either.

The malware software did not install. When I clicked the installer and then clicked "run" I got an error message that said, "The set up files are corrupted. Please obtain a new copy of the program."

The spyware software installed fine. Should I just run that in the meantime and post the log?

Thanks for helping.

Here is another download link for Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. Click the green icon.

Download and save it, close all open windows first, then install it, then restart.

Once that's done, you can follow my previous instructions.

Go here and click the green icon to download and save HiJackThis 2.0.4.

After it's been downloaded and saved, close all open windows first, then double-click the saved file to install it.

Allow it to install in its default location - C:\Program Files.

After it's been installed, start it and then click "Do a system scan and save a log file".

When the scan is finished in less than 30 seconds, a log file will appear.

Save that log file.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the entire log file here.

Ok, I ran and installed HiJackThis. First it gave me a prompt while it was running that said 'For some reason your system denied access to the hosts file. If any hijacked domains are in this file, HiJack may NOT be able to fix this. If that happens you need to edit the file yourself. To do this click 'start' 'run' and type notepad c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts and press enter. Find the files hijack reports and delete them. Save the file as 'hosts' with no quotes and reboot."

Then it gave me a list of files and I got the prompt from notepad, "Cannot find c:\Program Files (86x)\trendmicro\hijackthis\hijackthis.logfile."

So now I have the list, but no log file was created. So can't figure out how to copy the list to paste it here.

Go into Control Panel - User Accounts, turn off the User Account Control(UAC) feature, apply the change, then restart the computer.

Start HiJackThis and run another scan, then save that new log, then submit it here.

The 64-bit version of Windows Vista and Windows 7 doesn't allow HiJackThis to display all the log entries properly, especially the O23 entries, so that's going to be a bit of a hinderance.

I'm not positive at this point, but it looks like you have multiple antivirus programs(BitDefender and Norton) installed and running.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Let's see what's installed in that computer.

Start HiJackThis, but don't run a scan.

Click on the "Open The Misc Tools Section" button.

Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button.

Click on the "Save List" button.

Save the "uninstall_list.txt" file somewhere.

It'll then open in Notepad.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the entire file here.

Oh, and norton is installed along with bittorrent. The subscription has lapsed though, so I don't know whether it's running or not. But I do get messages to resubscribe often and that it's turned off. I didn't want to uninstall it because once my bittorrent subscription is over I want to uninstall that and buy norton. I hate bittorrent. I've had both installed like this for almost a year.

Go here, then scroll down the page to click the download link for the BitDefender removal tool. Download and save it in your computer.

Go here, then click one of the Downloads@MajorGeeks links for the Norton removal tool. Download and save it in your computer.

Go here, then click the download link for Microsoft Security Essentials. Download and save it in your computer.

After all 3 files have been downloaded and saved, close all open windows.

Double-click the BitDefender removal tool to run it. Once it's done, restart your computer.

Double-click the Norton removal tool to run it. Once it's done, restart your computer.

Double-click the Microsoft Security Essentials file to install it. There's no need for it to run a scan at this time, but allow it to update its definition files.

Advise me when you're done.

After you get BitDefender 2010 and Norton Internet Security removed and get Microsoft Security Essentials installed, go back to post #2 and try again to get Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and SUPERAntiSpyware installed and put to use.

I'm getting ready to go off-line for the night, so I'll check back with your thread in the morning.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Microsoft Security Essentials is light-weight and user-friendly and does a good job, so don't consider buying Norton again.
