Solved: what do you get a computer lover
Hi to all,
I thought this just might be the right place to come and ask. Christmas is coming and my daughter's boyfriend is a computer nut! Well not really a nut he just loves to take apart and play with the computer a lot. My question is; does anyone have any ideas what to get a 16 year old that has to do with computers for Christmas. Not too to expensive but still lots of fun.
Thanks for your input, i'll be waiting to hear.

Any guy that age loves a new Video card - though that might put a hole in your pocket. Or you could get him the latest computer game - e.g. Prince of Persia: Warrior Within

how sweet that you are looking for the perfect gift for a 16 year old boyfriend of your daughter! He must be a great kid!

Here are a few suggestions with approximate prices if he doesnt already have them:

Webcam (20 bucks)

DigiCam (40 bucks for a cheapie)

CleverCam (made by Arcsoft) is nice...its the size of a pen and you can carry it around in your pocket and it even takes a few minutes of video...(20 bucks)

How about a customized mousepad with your daughters picture on it or a pic of the two of them? Just take a pic to any Walmart and they can whip one up for you. (10 bucks)

Wireless mouse (about 40 bucks)

Laser mouse (20 bucks)

a gel wrist pad to ease the ache from sitting for hours at the comp (20 bucks)

A gift basket with: canned air to clean the keyboard (5)...mousepad (5), mouse (10), box of floppies (4) box of blank CD's (5)

How bout a new computer chair with arms? (40 bucks)

Computer games (10-30 bucks)

Headphones (20-30 bucks)

hope this helps

I build a lot of systems and do more repairs and upgrades than I care to remember. Even a good tool set wears out.

I know tools do wear out and I have gone tru lots of them. I used to go tru screw driver bits all the time that I used my drill. Then one day I was I was getting gas and the Mac tools truck was there and I was looking. I had gotten the screw driver bits from Mac for less money then I had been paying and they lasted and lasted. But they were made for the air impact tool so they were made out of very hard steel.

So maybe checkout getting some tools from Mac or other good tool makers because they use the best steel.

May I suggest you change the items in the gift basket No one uses floppies anymore. Also, make sure the blanks are CD-RWs. There's no need for a mouse pad if the mouse is optical and no point getting a mouse unless it's better than the one he currently has
