On The Occasion
Of my becoming a "Senior member" I think I will editorialize a little!!

First

I am NOT a big fan of Microsoft!!

But I must say, if it wasn't for Windows with all its problems, 90% of you people wouldn't be here!!

Yes it is BUGGY but most of the BUGS are in the GUI (gooey) and if you need a computer for Mission Critical uses, the a Command Line OS is what you need (Ie. UNIX or Solaris) with a Raid 5 storage system!!

Windows is a Entertainment OS primarily!! For real work its Command Line !!

Linux is command line and very stable in that Enviorment, but once you add a shell (Ie. KDE or Xwindows) it is as flaky as Windows!! And it is so user unfriendly it is horrendous!!

Linux with KDE is analogous to DOS with Windows 3.0 just a shell on top of a command line OS!!(DOS)

The first Microsoft OS that interacted directly with the Computer (BIOS) was Windows 95, a real breakthrough!! ( we got VXD's to directly call hardware) and those of us who tried it were amazed at how it worked!!

So if we were still back at command line, most people here wouldn't be here, and the Mentors would have nothing to do, all would be well aquainted with the systems!!

Next you AMD fans ( nothing wrong with that) But the demand for Computers if we still only had Command Line OS's would be small enough swo as not to make going into the Processor business not worthwhile! So we all would running Intels!

So Microsoft with all its faults is the reason most of you are here!! Dos or UNIX are not fun, except for us NERDS, who are more intersted in how rather than the end result!!

OK I said my piece, the Pro's will prolly agree with me and the rest will say I am a SNOB and a Microsoft Fan !!! READ MY SIG

Hey Jerry, Welcome Aboard! Congratulations on your Senior Member status.

I too am not a big fan of Microsoft although I am a Microsoft OEM Partner. Lol, I thank God for Windows because the problems with Windows and building systems with Windows is what puts the groceries on my table.

Microsoft
i really agree with you
no matter how much people criticise microsoft but the way it has made the computer user friendly is amazing
otherwise before the computer used to be operated only by profesiionals
but with its sleek gui interface even normal people can operate computers
kudos to microsoft really
