U.S. Army
Hello all. I'm new to this forum. I made the decision to join the U.S. Army about 3-4 weeks ago. Since I'm only 17 and need to have my H.S. Diploma I have to wait until August 28th, 2008 before I get shipped to Basic Training and Advance Individual Training. I have secured the job that I will be doing in the Army; Information Technology Specialist. I just decided to let you know. I'm gonna find the introduce yourself part of this forum so I can properly...introduce...my...self

I am Proud of You
I don’t know you but I want you to know that I am proud of you. I was in the Air Force 1981 to 85. I have a son in the USAF in Afghanistan and my 16 year old can’t wait till he can join. We need more people like you to serve our country. Like the commercials say “It’s a great way to start”. It was the best thing I did with my life I don’t regret it. Good luck, work hard and be safe.

So you're a 25 series, 'eh?
Good luck at BCT, if you go anywhere near C Co. 2/39, tell 'em Eadie said hi, they'll probably make you do pushups
You'll enjoy Ft. Gordon, GA though, I am sure of that.
If you need any advice on being a 25, or how to deal with army life, let me know. Hooah!

I'm going to Ft. Bennings, GA not Gordon. And thank you all! I can do a lot of other things but push-ups I'll manage though. I have 300+ more days before I ship anyway. I'm quite surprised at how many people actually was in the military.

If you all can give me a little insight on what I will be enduring please, drop a bug in my ear.

Is there an Introduce yourself forum here?

MOS-Data Systems, don't have my specific job title, though, just the field.

good luck

Aw, man. That's so awesome. I just wish I could already be down there but the again, I will take this time to "prepare" for what's in store for me...or what I expect to be in store for me.

You are going to Fort Benning for basic trainning then you go to Fort Gordon for AIT (Advanced Individual Trainning) because Fort Benning is "Home of the infantry" and you are not infantry you are signal =).

Here are some good pointers for the future buddy.

1. Stay out of firehouse when you get family day for Fort Benning.
2. Go to firehouse all the time in Fort Gordon.
3. Go to Disco Tech to see the nice ladies.
4. When you are about half way through AIT look for your next duty station by looking up your "ERB" (Can be found on the home page of AKO) and let me know if you are coming to Fort Hood Texas.
5. Be ready to go to Iraq so enjoy life while you are in AIT and not in the Army yet.
6. Do the initial PT test and pass it so you can gain extra rank instead of coming in as a E1 come in as an E2 atleast. (Ask your Recruiter about this)
7. You have a little while before you are in so you still have time to think if its for you so do this schedual for a couple week sand if you skip it one day because you are tired of it just imagin not being able to skip it =)

a. Wake up at 5:30AM
b. Make your bed.
c. Go to PE or PT (whatever you want to call it) for 1 hour including running 2 miles and doing pushups and situps.
d. Go back to your room and clean it up with the bathroom and a hall way if you have one and have everything hung up (all your clothes). Dont lay down! no rest is allowed!
e. If you have school go to school but dont take any naps at school.
f. When you get off of school do whatever you want until 9:00PM but when 9:00PM hits you must be in bed with everything clean.

If you can do that list then you pretty much have it made =). If you have any questions please contact me.. Other than that good luck and enjoy yourself.

O_o

Oh, wow. Well. I wake up at 0630 every morning and go to bed around 2300 so the waking up part wouldn't suck, maybe the 1 hour of PT might suck after just waking up. Cleaning is no problem so I should be okay after the first few weeks of it.

Thank you all for your reply and crtvlynx I will definitely let you know if I go to TX's. =]

Congratulations on your choice to enlist. Basic to me seemed more mental than physical, after a week or two you should be able to keep up physically. Some soldiers have problems adjusting to BT at first, all the yelling, confusion never really been away from home, missing family & friends etc etc....Don't let the drill instructors get to you just remember its there job to mold you into a solider. You'll meet many new and interesting people from all walks of life, many becoming life long friends. After AIT it becomes just like a job with the exceptions of training. Take advantage of all the opportunities that come your way and sign up for the GI bill so you can attend school afterwards. Good luck

PS: how long are you enlisted for?
