JohnMR Saying Hello...
Hi.

My name's John Ravenscroft and I'm a freelance writer based in the UK.

Got a website here if you can bear to look.

I stumbled across Tech Support Guy when I was looking for general computer help - I fixed a few very basic problems for people who live nearby, and now they're under the false impression that I know everything about computers.

I wish!

Despite my ignorance, I've started getting lots of 'Help Me!' requests from friends of friends, so I thought I'd better learn a little more about Windows in particular and IT in general.

So here I am.

At 53, I'd be willing to bet I'm a lot older that most of the people here - but don't hold that against me. The world turns, and however unlikely it seems, you'll get there too one of these days. The worst part is going shopping, seeing someone on the CCTV, thinking 'who's that old guy?' - then realising it's you.

Anyway - nice to be here and I look forward to getting to know some new people. Expect some pretty basic questions in the days to come.

Cheers, and thanks in advance for your help.

John

Welcome to TSG JohnMR. This is a great community. I resemble that remark about seeing someone on the CCTV and realizing that some old guy took over my body. (I'm about ready to get rid of the mirrors in my place, too.)

Thanks for the welcome, ekim68.

I play guitar, too. Looks like we're both old hippies!

Hello John and welcome to TSG.

Impressive website I only had a swift skim, but will investigate more fully when I'm sober - I've got a day pencilled in for the second week in December. To be described as funny by Sir John M is an achievement

A word to the wise: avoid CivDeb - I'm reliably informed that part of the forum is subsidised by the FBI to keep large numbers of the criminally insane off American streets

welcome to tsg, john

i gave took a quick looksee at your site....it's pretty impressive ....i like the articles section and the one about your novel was my favorite (not many people i know would quite so sincerely thank god for a broken ankle ).....particularly the topics that interest you

if you get tired of learning about computers, come and browse civilized debate....it rarely attains either descriptor, but you'll find a lot of characters there, pushing their points of view....and a good number of your countrymen as well.....

anyway...welcome

I had a quick look at CivDeb. I see religion is a hot topic there.

I'm a sucker for God Talk, so I'd better stay out of there. I can happily waste entire days discussing reasons why God is a highly unlikely concept.

I met Sir John M because I won a prize in a novel-writing comp. There was a posh meal in a posh London restaurant and I sat next to him (and opposite Sue Townsend). He's excellent company.

Thanks again to all for the warm welcome.

Don't have a webcam yet, Blackmirror. I've been thinking of getting one. Any advice on best buys?

I'll take a look at Random, SB.

I can see this place may become adictive, and I've not yet asked any computer-related questions!

(Thanks for the welcome, jesseem...)
