Moving!!
It's official....my hubby got a better job!! Yay! We don't know that the financial situation is going to be much different because the cost of living there is higher than here by a bit--and he's only getting a bit of a raise....but there's somewhere for him to move up to, and more opportunities for raises and such.

So I've been on the phone nearly all week talking to realtors, mortgage lenders, etc. because there aren't many (if any) rental prospects in the area that we are looking to move to. We've tried to be smart about the mortgage thing--knowing that it's a huge debt that has to be paid off eventually--so we are sticking to a range that we are comfortable with. It's making our house hunt harder, because we are limiting our budget so much, but we don't want any nasty surprises. The bank says we'll be able to afford a lot more than we think we can, but like I said--I don't want to find out that they are wrong the hard way.

So anyway, be on the lookout for posts asking how to remodel bathrooms/kitchens/etc. in the home-improvement forum....because we are probably going to end up with a "fixer-upper". Which is OK with me....I like the work--it'll be a nice change from from what I'm doing now.

Banks/realtors will sell you the max if you let them! You know what you can afford at this time.

Congratulations and best wishes !

Awesome! Congrats and good luck

Let me know when you're in fixer upper mode, I may have a few tips. I refuse to pay anyone to do work I can...and it's saved me thousands so far on tile, hardwood, plumbing, etc.

Thanks Dave. We are getting a "moving bonus" this time, so that will hopefully make things easier.

Yeah, I know that they will--it's the way for them to make more money....but it's also what got them into trouble with all the foreclosures...makes me wonder if the "money-making" is worth all the "money-losing"...???? *shrug*

Thanks Chris! I'll probably take you up on that....our options so far are looking rather grim. But we'll make do--we have to. I just wish I'd have known sooner that he was going to take this job....he'd been acting like he wasn't going to--kept making excuses and stalling on calling them back and whatnot. (Where's the irritated smiley when you need one???) Of course, the house we live in now sold the other day...so I think that was the decision-maker more than anything.

Wonderful news! Good luck! I remember when we moved for the first time... it was exciting, busy, and stressful! But when it was all said and done.... it was well worth it!

LOL! To quote some old farmer "This ain't my first rodeo"... I think we'll be on move #3--not counting moving to/from college, and moving when we got married, and the move my family made when I was in grade school. It will be our first home-buying experience if we do it.

I can't tell you how many times I have moved since the first move as a child...... something like 10 times up to now! Since being married.... this was our 3rd place. First was an apartment we rented..... 2nd was a house we rented then eventually bought.. and this place that we own now!

I have to say... homeownership is the way to go..... it's yours..... it's an investment... Just make sure you read all the fine print and if you have any questions or doubts... ask before signing on the dotted lines!!!!!

Fantastic.
Yes, be very careful; the two of your are the only ones who have your best interest at heart. Everyone else just wants what they can get out of you.
My hubby is retired Navy so there was a time that I never tought we would settle down in one place, so I know what moving can do to a person.
Hopefully you can take your time and find just what you are looking for.

Bloom where you are planted
with roots that are firm and strong
May you prosper in all you do
with a life that's full and long

Good luck as you set your goals
for the future days ahead
Follow where your heart leads you
it'll take you where it's led

Good Luck!........
