First, welcome to TSG, and sorry for the delay in responding - usually help comes a tad faster than this...

Anyhow, need more info; such as:
OS being ran
which iMac [including speed, CRT or flatscreen, etc...]
what you mean by "jumping" - constant flicker, jumps on occasion, what is happening when it jumps, and so on
are you near any external heat and/or electrical sources?

w/o knowing this, can just guess that could be a battery, logic board, or some other hardware problem.

Holler back w/ some details!

Rob

Using OS X version 10.3.2, CPU speed 400 MHz...it's near a window if that can be considered an external heat source. I don't know. The screen constantly flickers. It improves a little if I lower the resolution, but then it screws with the programs.

YBBA - this is the CRT [cathode ray tube; ie: curved, not flat screen] model, right? If so, recall that this is more like a TV - where such as a 'horizontal control circuit', or the computer's 'logic board' could be amiss. Of course, there are no magnetic fields nearby? Again, did this just start up all of a sudden, w/o any changes to your operating conditions? As to your window, guess that would depend if you live in somewhere near conditions found near the Sahara or if you are in Siberia...

There is this issue too...

http://www.oliver-kreuzenbeck.de/iMa...lems/iMac.html

Seems that there is potential for some bad capacitors in various iMacs... of course, these are the new iMacs, not the older iMac pertaining to this thread. However, could be similar issue.

Yes, it is a CRT, or non-flatscreen, model. The problem started as soon as I transported this (used) imac from my employers house to my house-about 15 miles. Worked fine there, not so fine here. Fortunately I don't live near the Sahara, altho it has been pretty hot...
