pram
I bought a apple G4 I book and being very new to mac's ,I decided to see if I could find a bios/cmos set up program like a I.B.M. compatible pc.After a Google search and a stop at Apple.com I was able to find out that mac's use pram and how to reset it to factory parameters but, wasn't sucessful in finding a keyboard combination that would bring me to a text based set up program. So my question is .Do mac's have a text based set up program and what would be the keyboard commands to use in order to enter it? thanks

There is no text based setup program. To reset the pram (pronounced pee-ram), hold down the "Command" key (Apple key, next to space bar), the "Option" key, the "P" key, and the "R" key, while booting up. Hold down until you hear the startup chimes about 3-4 times. Then let go, and let it finish booting up. Your "pram" will be reset...........
Good luck!
That is with pre-OSX software. Don't know if OSX is still the same. Maybe someone else will chime in.........

We have some PowerMac G5's where I work, which uses Open Firmware, and you press Command-Option-O-F during boot to get an open firmware prompt, where you can type commands... blah blah.... Anyway, apparently the stuff is saved in "NVRAM" as they call it, and to reset to defualts you type "reset-nvram", assuming that an open firmware password hasn't been set. If it has.... well I don't know what to do then. Maybe there's some physical way of resetting it (like the oldschool jumpers!?!?? I didn't see any one the mobo in those....).

I wonder if that cleared up anything.....
