Question Mac G3 sleep
I have a Power Mac G3 266mhz mini tower, with OS 9.2 installed and just also installed version 10.2 Jaguar. When I put my G3 in sleep mode, it goes into power save, monitor goes off etc. You can still hear the hard drive motor running, which is normal for G3. With a G4 everything goes off including hard drive. I'd like to know if there is a way to get the G3 to go into the complete sleep mode hard drive and all, as the G4 does. If not can the G3 be left on continuously, or is it better to turn off the computer completely on daily basis? Please advise, thanks.

Don't think so - I believe that the G3's do not have PMU's; the goodies are not there for the computer to go into sleep.

As to turning it off/on daily vs. leaving on, that is one of those never-ending queries about computers - not sure about one that age, if it would be better to turn off and let it rest for some time, but then get kicked when its restarted. Cause starting a computer up, as most machines/motors/etc., is very hard on 'em - power surges, motors start to spin, etc. I would imagine for every person that swears one way, you'll find another that preaches the opposite. Me, I do both... Just depends on length of downtime. More than a day or so, its shut down.
