New files slow to appear in Mac OS10.3.9
For months I have experienced a problem of newly created files that are invisible for various periods of time before I am able to attach them to email or otherwise access them. They are visible in a search but are not visible or accessible when I go to the folder location. Alternately clicking on the desktop and the folder will eventually make them appear. It's a real time killer. Does anyone have an answer?

(Mac G4 Dual 800, 1.5 GB ram, OS10.3.9).
Thanks for your help.

did you do a software update or was it a new install? I'n any case, I would do a reinstall of the OS and under options, choose save user settings. You may need to resinstall an app or 2, but this should cure the issue.

Let us know more details if you can....

repair disk permissions or else likely you have directory malformations best solved by reinstall of OS THEN repair disk permissions for boot disk in disk utility program located in Applications/Utilities folder. Alsoft Diskwarrior is a good investment for any Mac running 10.3.x panther or later.

I installed OS10.3 (Panther) in December 2003 and have kept it up to date as notified of releases. Also purchased OS10.4 family pack as soon as it came out but it will not install after numerous tries. (TechTools indicates a disk error that I don't have the knowhow with which to deal. But that's an issue for a later post.).

Weeks ago I happened upon, but did not bookmark, someone else's query about the same slowness and/or temporary invisibility of files. The consensus in that short discussion was that it was something Apple was likely aware of and would fix in a forthcoming update. Since that has not happened, I assume it's a localized problem and your suggestion to reinstall is best. If Santa let's me down on a new G5 I will try the reinstall. (I am self-employed so time is my major concern).
Hmmm, I wonder if it could be a Preferences glitch?
Thanks for your time and suggestions.

Alsoft Diskwarrior will be my next purchase. And I'll give it one more half day of reinstall effort. So many gremlins. So little time.
Thanks.
