Mac with extreme card, networking with pc and 3rd party modem router
Well this is my first post so I'll try to make it as painless as possible.
I want to network my mac G4 laptop with my Compaq PC.I have an airport extreme card installed on the mac but didn't want to spend the $200.00 on the extreme base station. Can i use the extreme card in the mac and a third party wireless router/modem such as a Link Sys with realatively few compatibility problems, and could you recommend the hardware and the way to network it together.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You will have not 1 problem accessing anyone's wireless network. You do not need anything at all you have everything.

Thanks DOC......I have a cable modem already that came with my insight account
( RCA...mod# DCM45),but if necessary to eliminate compatibility issues I'll just buy a different router/modem combo.I'm using a mac G4 laptop w extreme card and a compaq presario desktop. could you recommend a low cost modem/router that would work the best with my set up.

You're cool with any wireless router. Just now the settings. I use D-Link they are very easy to setup and I have had no compatibility issues what so ever.

You might need to update the wireless router's firmware. My Airport Extreme card and the LinkSys EZXS16W router at the office would not cooperate until after the firmware was updated to the newest version.

Now everything's hunky dory.

That's why i use D-link. Screw Linksys. Firmware updates to be compatible with D-Link wireless cards as well.
