Could be very useful--I own lots of PC software---big investment---I also want to run some Mac software--like FCP----It would be nice to have one machine that would run both.

My question is?
Why does anyone want to open the system up for the windows downfalls, viruses, spyware, etc?

Now, I use VPC for the few things I need to run in a 1386 world, and then a Win2003 server for anything else.

I am NOT sold by any means.

Nytemagik, my point exactly! All the Mac dudes wine constantly about Windows sux, it's so bad, it has viruses and worms and all kinds of bad stuff Macs are God. Now they can run Windows native on Apple hardware and it's the next greatest thing since Firewire 800. Give me a break.

Do I want to try it? Ah let's see, NO! Buy a $2000 machine and run a overpriced unstable OS, Yes that rocks! Sweet dude!

You paint with an awfully wide brush, D0C. I'm mostly a Mac user, but I've always said that people should use whatever OS best does what they need to do. I really don't care what you or anyone else uses. I use what works best for me. 80% of the time that's a Mac.

Would I be interested in being able to dual-boot into Windows and MacOS? Sure. Why not? I'm conversant in both, and there are some things that are available in the Windows world that are not in the Mac world (namely, for my purposes, a good selection of combat flight sims, specifically of the pre-jet variety), and vice versa. If I could do both with one box, and do it well, I'd be game.

And I'd say the ability to dual-boot is a great thing. It opens Mac hardware up as a viable possibility to a large number of people who may be stuck in a PC-only environment (because of hard/software requirements or whatever).

Increasing Apple's market share is definitely a good thing for me (as I'm an Apple shareholder). And exposing to diehard Apple users the possibility of installing and running the Windows OS is definitely a good thing for me (as I'm a Microsoft shareholder, as well).

As to macguru's most recent post, he is quite correct that your comments are based on nothing but conjecture. Why don't you wait and see, rather than blindly swipe at things about which you couldn't possibly have any data? Seems the prudent choice to me.

Cool Hey somebody ASKED how to boot Windows on a Mac and.....
.....then the Windows camp freaks out? HEY HEY give me a BREAK!!!! I offer people FREE damn tech support and what I get mostly from the experienced users is attitude. That ROTS and so do all those Windows users GET IT ?????? Tell you what suckers you windows weenies better just GO AWAY stay on the PC SIDE of things till we yank your leashes. We dont NEED your opionions. We don't WANT your opinions. In fact if we WANT Windows tech questions we'll post on the Windows side. Till then SHUT UP WITH WHAT YOU THINK BECAUSE NO ONE CARES!!!!!!
I think this should put your crappy opinions in their places where they belong. Now SOME of us want some peace. This is NO PLACE TO TELL A Mac person what you THINK!!!!!!

Cool To put it all into perspective
I come to this forum only to the Mac section to help Mac users. What i have gotten is a LOT of attitude from Windows users who snipe and criticize while offering NOTHING by way of help. If you are a Windows user who fits the above desc ription you have NO business here so unless you LIKE being flamed I suggest you stick to your side of the street. Heaven knows I do. And i have nothing by way of opinion to offer the Windows folks on THEIR side of the board, which I avoid. Those who have actual help to offer people may do, and those that do not may rant...elsewhere. It took me YEARS to develop my skills and understand computers running the Mac OS and it is something to be enjoyed and appreciated by all ESPECIALLY if offered in some small amount on a FREE tech support board. Lets keep it professional, to the point, and to the needs of helping those less fortunate who cannot afford other means of help to get some. I do NOT appreciate being baited and flamed for offering alternatives which are of a constructive and professional means, but you pull the serpents tail...or walk into the Lions den and.......Have a Nice Day........

If XP will boot natively on the intel mac, then a version of VPC set up for the intel mac should run XP at full speed.

This would open up the Mac world by enabling Macs to also host XP - simultaneously.

Virtual machines are very cool. I run Win2000 in a virtual machine on my Linux system routinely.

Actually, I'll bet VMWare shortly has a mac version available. VMWare is an outstanding virtual machine environment for intel chipsets, and OSX is just BSD at the heart; porting VMWare should be just about trivial.
