removing icons from ONLY the destop
I have just gotten a new powerbook G4. It has mac OS X operating system. Now the last time I used an apple the system was much differnt. I've been downloading different programs for my new computer (ie. msn messenger, and VLC media player) and random icons from the download keep going on my desktop. How do I get rid of them or move them somewhere else without effecting the program? I tried just dragging them to another folder but, last night i let the computer battery die out and when i turned it on this morning both msn and VLC were no where to be found. Thank you for any help you can give me.

What kind of random icons? Where did you move MSN and VLC? If you moved them to a folder, it should be in that folder. Maybe you put them in the Trash? Try clicking on the Trash in the Dock. (The dock is the bar on th ebottom of your screen.)

right click (apple click) the item you wish to save and choose where to save it. The default location is the desktop. You can change that in your prefer to anywhere you would like even a new folder named downloads if you choose to do so.
