Product ID?
Using a Mac and MS Works...where do I locate my Product IDs? How do I do something like a regedit in Mac? (New to Mac)

Hmmm...
Dan, if you are using MS Works I assume it is an older computer. Be careful with Works, as some day when you want to transfer your documents to Word/Office etc., they might not...
Claris or AppleWorks may serve you better...can save as Word PC and others. New version will save as HTML.

What are product IDs and RegEdit to be used for? Also, what OS are we talking about; what computer? Shooting from the hip you might try versiontracker site.

Dan don't listen to the above reply the person is off track. Works is fully compatable with Office. I know. You just need to make a habit of saving the files correctly. Depending on the version you can even export to an office file format.

Now as for the serial number you are asking about. Is is already installed? Did you buy it used? If you bought it used you're going to have trouble finding one. You are going to have to call Microsoft and beg for one. Just claim you lost it. If it's already installed click on the apple on the top left menu and choose about MS works. a splash screen will come up. Your serial number will be on it somewhere. There is no registry file on a mac so what is it you want to do?

Version?
Hello.
Dan, No need to put you through being in the middle of a "none helping discussion", but you didn't mention what version of Works you are talking about and if it is older, there is no Office File Format because there was no Office in existence back when. You might check mactopia.com for updates etc.
If you want a more powerful word processor with extra tools, you might try nisus.com... they sometimes offer older, full blown versions free. If you need the database/spreadsheet features, none of the Works programs are professional level, but may suffice. I don't generally support MS products unless absolutely necessary. Claris and AppleWorks will be friendlier.

If needed, you might ask Doc to advise how to save the files so they can be taken into Office. Also, you might have him explain how to "Flash the RAM" again -) The last line is a bad joke, sorry Dan.
Good Luck, dp

Door, did you just wait around to throw a jab at me or what? Ok you made a funny, now I'll make one at you. Is Works so old you can't save the files as text or rich text files? Even Database files have generic formats. You want me to teach you too nooby?

Works is so old you can't even copy and paste at least that's what I heard. I'll go flash some memeory 5 years ago and you go piss off. If you're not going to be constructive stay the hell out of this. You feel that I'm misleading Dan then say so. If not keep your useless opinions to yourself. Any file that has text in it can be converted to any other office type program. Sometimes it's easy sometimes it's hard. Like DoorGah's head, oh sorry bad joke.
