drivers for scanner
Hello!

I wish to install my scanner onto my new mac. It is a CanoScan N650U. I am running OS X 10.4.4.

Problem is, I've been unable to install the drivers, despite downloading what I'm told is the right software. I'm not sure if the drivers are actually being installed in the first place, but the scanner isn't being picked up at all!

I'm using the CanoScan Toolbox.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Nicky

Hi!

Thanks for replying. Was getting a little worried that no-one out there would know!

It's an Intel (IMac).

Thanks for your help. Have kept trying but with no luck what-so-ever.

Chances are the drivers aren't universal binary or they don't work correctly with Rosetta. I'm trying to find a kbase article on the apple.com/support site that lists all drivers included with tiger on the intel machine (i know ive come across it before). Sit tight, I will see what I can find

Hmm, doesn't look like you are in luck. However I could be wrong so if someone finds out differently please post.

Really you could try getting drivers from canons website but like I said they're is probably some compatibility issues.

Check out http://www.apple.com/support/tiger/printing/

Btw, is your printer directly connected or over a network?

Hi,

My scanner is directly connected. My first port of call was Canons site, where I downloaded an upgrade to the software which I was using on my old Mac. Apparently this is meant to install the drivers. It goes through the process and tells me that the drivers were installed, however I somehow doubt this as the scanner is not being picked up. This ties in with your theory about compatability. Was kinda hoping I'd be able to sort it out. Never had similar problems with PC's!

I will have a look at the link you suggested. Thank you for your time.

Printing is generally quite easy because even a generic driver will work fine, however scanners do require special software/drivers to function correctly so I'm thinking that it is in fact an incompatibility issue with the mac/intel binary.

Yeah, I tried it. The link leads you to their downloads page. I downloaded the software for OS X Operating Systems, it ran and had apparently installed the drivers, but the scanner still isnt being recognised!

VueScan seems to be my only option. It seems like the scanner is compatible with my Opeating System (according to Canon) but perhaps that it isn't compatible with Intel?

Thanks for your help guys!

Ya chances are they haven't re-coded it to work with the intel. Seems like Rosetta has a hard time with drivers also a hard time with internet plugins like flash.
