Broken ibook G4
i have a broken ibook G4. i thing someone dropped it becasue the screen wabbles and does not stay open. when u lift up the screen and let go of it, it falls back down on the keyboard. i can see wires coming from the screen and going into the body of the laptop. when i power it on i hear the chime and after a few seconds the screen turns on and stays gray. nothing happens after that. i just stays gray. what could be the potential problem? i tried to boot it to a network holding the N key but nothing happens. any ideas? or do i just have a bunch of scrap parts? may be i could sell somethiings from it on ebay. the keyboard is fine, the LCD screen is perfect, the airport card is working, so is the battery.

I find this post amusing, so I'll give it such a treatment. Forgive me if the post was meant in all seriousness.

I'm no "expert" on such matters, but I'd begin with:

This seems a likely notion, as...

Gravity. It's not just a good idea. It's the Law.

Visible wires + LCD screen + iBook = Major problem

At least the speakers work.

Which is potentially a hard drive failure (as is often the case with droppage of such hardware), but potentially far worse problems involving the motherboard, parts connected thereto, on down the line.

Probably, some of which are working, some of which are not. If you wish to rid yourself of them I would be up front regarding this so as to avoid potential legal problems in the future.

I'd concentrate on the working parts, such as...

That's several parts, or one part, depending upon the need(s) of the buyer, however I would grant the potential for dispute of the following claims in the manner that follows the claims:

I don't think, given the suspicion that it's been dropped, that I'd give such a warranty--such a claim opens yourself up to a host of liability concerns under U.S. (and possibly other) products liability law.

How can you verify this, given it won't boot up?

Again, I'd not warrant such. You may be right, but in the interest of avoidance of potential problems I'd be completely up-front saying that you had a strong suspicion it had been dropped, and, therefore, caveat emptor, all parts (or the whole) is sold as is.

now that i read my own post i can see where the humor comes in. lol. it is probably beyond repair because the tech coordinator at my school said that i could have it if i want. it still has those metal acid tag anti theft stickers on it. the reason i think that the screen works is because when the display is gray there is no discoloration of any kind. no black spots or anything like that.
