Solved: Powerbook fails during Startup
When stating after shut down,my Powerbook G4 running Mac OS10.4.9 stops and goes black after reaching the log-in stage. Have tried removing battery and disconnecting power then holding down the power button for over five seconds as recommended in the User's Guide but it again quits at the same stage. After leaving it closed for an hour or so, it woke when I open it and operated normally except the clock had to be reset.

I'm a little confused about your problem. You said the startup proceedure quits after a certain point. But you also stated that after you just left it in that state for an hour or so, the system woke up. Sounds like your system is starting up, but going to sleep mode almost immediately. Your system won't "wake up" if it hasn't booted up in the first place.

Have you tried repairing permissions, and doing a directory rebuild (try using DiskWarrior). And it doesn't hurt to check your energy saver settings as well. Give those a go first.

Thank you; I'll try your suggestions. It does seem to be asleep rather than shut down-the light on the front is pulsating. But first I've got to get it to run for more than a few seconds on the Log-in page!

Powerbook Won't Boot
I repaired Disk Permissions and it's back to normal. Hooray!
