If you are trying to play a DVD movie, then 'DVD Player' is the application you're looking for.

The application known as "DVD Player" is installed alongside the Mac OS. If such an application does not appear within your Applications folder something is amiss. Someone may have deleted the application, in which case just reinstall it from your disks that came with your machine. If you do not have the disks that came with your machine, then go to the disks you used to install Mac OS X. It's there, as well.

If you do not have this... Well... Um... Can't much help you. Consult the person from whom you purchased the machine and see if s/he has the disk(s)? Yeah, I don't know either. Never heard of someone not having DVD Player installed on a Mac OS X volume. Sorry.
