image extensions are not correctly with the right program
Hey all,

I recently installed Adobe Photoshop CS in thoughts of seeing the problem I was having was restricted to Photoshop 7.0, but unfortunately it wasn't, so I removed CS from my machine (license issues) and now when I open up an image file (by double clicking the .psd, .tif, etc) it gives me an error. I realized that the extensions were referencing to CS so I tried to make the .tif extensions to have Photoshop 7.0 as the default application. (I did this by going to Get Info on a file > Open With section, and Change All) However when I click Change All and OK'ed it, it kept CS as the default.

If I drag the file to the 7.0 icon to open it, any other file with the same extension will open without any issue if i double click it.

This one has me stumped.

There's a free application that can help manage file extensions and the applications that open them.

I have the same problem with opening movie files sometimes. Try using that program to sort out your extensions.

Actually I think I found the problem. I didn't 'delete' the folder, it was in the Trash. So the application was referencing the trash as it's location and as you may know, nothing can be opened in Trash. I emptied it out and then tried again and it worked with no problems.

I've had trouble with this in Mac OS X, myself. Seems like in OS 9.X and before, if something was in the trash, even though not yet emptied, the system ignored its being there (with the exception of available disk space, of course). Now the system seems to maintain its awareness of what is in the trash.

I understand that this may prove useful, but I am very careful about what I put in the trash, and only put in there things that I really want to be (eventually) overwritten. My memory on this matter could be wrong, but it sure seemed like I had fewer problems with things in the trash back in the olden days.
