VHS to DVD for Macs?
I'm wanting to convert my VHS tapes to DVDs but I've read all sorts of different ways and methods and they're all confusing me. Do you have to go through your computer to do this? If so I have a Mac. Any suggestions or clarifications would help. Thank you!

Without more information from your end of things we're not going to be terribly helpful to your specific situation. Some Macs have video inputs built into them. Some Macs have video outputs built into them. What Mac (be very specific here--don't just say G4. Give machine specifics. Give any additional information that may prove useful (any PCI cards you've got installed that may play a role, all information on RAM, processor speed, VRAM, et cetera.

You may be better off just taking these VHS tapes to a professional to have them converted to DVD. They do it for a living, and, in most places, do it enough that it's not a terribly expensive product/project.

Another course to consider is a hardware DVD burner that will capture video that is piped into it onto DVD. Likely pricey. And time-intensive. My time is more valuable than spending it on running VHS into a digital format in real time. But that's just me. That's partially why I would go to a pro to have it done. Assuming it's something you want others to see and/or it's something you have the rights to use in such a way.

Converting VHS
We actually have a small business and one of our services is converting VHS tapes to DVDs. We use MovieBox by Pinnacle. It has several cables - one we attach to a VCR, the other to our Mac, and using iMovie, you can import directly. It works identically as importing from digital camcorder - you can import the entire VHS tape and edit later, or watch it in real-time and only import what you want. For more info see:

Cost is around $100.00, easy to use. Good luck!
