I am not really sure where this one fits in, but I hope this is a good spot.
I recently hit a job where I can now afford the computer I want to get, but I am not really all that sure about what to get. My current system does me alright, but I want something more fresh. The specs are:
Operating System
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (build 2600)
Processor
2.20 GIGAHERTZ AMD ATHLON XP
64 KILOBYTE PRIMARY MEMORY CACHE
512 KILOBYTE SECONDARY MEMORY CACHE
Main Circuit Board
Board: soyocomputer
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 080011 01/06/2004
MEMORY MODULES
1024 Megabytes Installed Memory
DISPLAY
RADEON 9800 PRO [Display adapter]
RADEON 9800 PRO - Secondary [Display adapter]
This was my first computer. It started out with a Video Card that was . . . out of date, and I replaced it after the fan burnt up on it. My brother and his friend built it for me for my birthday and spent just over $1000. I love her to death, but I think it might be time for old Juanita to take a rest.
Notebook vs. Desktop
I do not know if I should get a notebook or another desktop. I usually just use my computer at home, but if I could take it with me to friend’s houses and on road trips I know I would. The desktop will cost less and be easier to upgrade, but you lose all the mobility and space.
Apple vs. Windows
First of all, before I get into this, I have a good friend that works for Apple, so I can get a 15% discount on any Apple product.
I love to do video editing. It makes me so happy. I took a class in high school and we used Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 and I had a BLAST! I can’t do that stuff on this computer, so I need a new one anyway. I keep hearing that Apple is very friendly to people who want to do editing.
I love to game a lot too. I play WoW currently and some other games when I feel like it. I, once again, heard that Apple isn’t so gamer friendly, but they are making their way to get there. My personal problem with that is I use the G15 keyboard and the G5 Mouse and I hear that they don’t fully function on a Mac. Some kind of driver issue. I think I could live with that though. Drivers can always be made.
If I was to get a Mac I think it would be the:
• 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
• 4GB 667 DDR2 - 2x2GB SO-DIMMs
• 160GB Serial ATA Drive @ 7200 rpm
• SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
• MacBook Pro 17-inch High-Resolution Widescreen Display
• Backlit Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
Costing $3500 with the discount. I will also get a Terabyte External Hard Drive.
Thank you for reading my wall of text and I will be so thankful for any help at all.
Mason
