multiple apple extremes and wireless issue..
Hi all,

I help setup a wireless netowork using 8 Airport Extremes on a small rural school campus and need help in getting the teachers ibooks to roam to the closest Airport?

This is what I have done to each Airport:

SSID: all same name (school)
Name of Airport: each one named to where they're located
Distributed IP: disabled and they get it from the router
Security: off (for now)
Signal strength: 100%

The problem is that once the teacher turns on the laptop it will connect to the wireless since it is only one name. But as the teachers are roaming around the campus, the laptops will not switch to the nearest Airport as I have hoped. It seems to stay connected to whatever Airport it connects to and never roams to the nearest Airport. Like this example here. I have a teacher who has two bars, but there is an Airport in her room and its not switching to it? When I pull down the wireless icon to see it shows the single wireless network, but I can't tell which Airport she's connected to? I would like for it to jump to the one in her room automatically. All the teachers iBooks are doing this? Is there something that I am missing? I have a manual "Setting up Airport Wireless Network" from Apple and have pretty much covered it pretty well, but I think I might have missed something that hopefully someone here can shed some light on?

Thanks for any help given!!

Are you setting up a WDS? Sounds like that's what you need to be doing. It's not clear, but I think you are trying to set each AirPort Base Station up independently.
