Solved: Mac Advice!!!
Hi.

Just looking abit of information.Just about to purchase a macbook. I noticed Mac Office is a 30 day trial on it. At present i have a windows xp laptop which i have office disk for. Is it possible to install Microsoft Office onto a mac or would it be more advised to purchase the full edition of office macs.

Thank you

Office for Mac is for Mac and Microsoft Office is for Windows PC. It won't install on your MacBook unless you partition the hard drive for XP/Vista using either Boot Camp or Parallels but it will only be available when you run Windows.

You could always buy the full edition if you have to have it on the Mac or you could use one of the many excellent free Open Source Word Processors like AbiWord, NeoOffice or OpenOffice.org and there are others I just can't think of at this time ...

I personally use NeoOffice and consider it to be very good ...

You could also buy Codeweaver Crossover Office.

It's an app that lets you run some Windows products on Intel Macs.
It runs MS Office 2003 great on my machines.

They have a free trial you can download and try before buying, and its fairly cheap to buy.

You also have the option of using a virtualization product like VMware Fusion or Parallels for Mac. Both run a complete Windows envirnoment inside OS X and allow you to run the majority of Windows programs. The latest versions have new features to embed the Windows apps directly into OSX and hide the virtual machine. These options are a little more expensive than Crossover ($40-$80) depending if current sale is still on.

Having said that, although I have all 3 options, I generally use the free NeoOffice almost exclusively now. It appears to have all the features that most MS Office users really need.
