Downloading OmniPage from CD
I have a Canon Lide 30 scanner which came with a CD containing various pieces of software including OmniPage SE for scanning with optical character recognition. I am using the CD to instal the software on my iMac (OS 10.3.9). All the software is loading satisfactorily with the exception of OmniPage.

With OmniPage, I keep getting a message, after 525 of 529 items have been installed, saying: "Sorry, the operation could not be completed due to a system error (-61)." If I click on the OmniPage SE icon, I am given the message "Part of this copy of OmniPage SE has been corrupted. Please reinstall the OmniPage application." -- and when I do try to reinstall it, I get the "system error" message again.

Does this sound like a Mac problem, a CD problem or a problem with the operator (me!)?

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Eric

Is your mac PPC or Intel?

Is this software installing into the OS 9 Classic environment if PPC?

If my "guess" is right, then -61 is a write permission error in OS 9. My assumption is that the installer is somehow installing into an incorrect location on your HD. A solution may be to directly boot into OS 9 and try the installer from there.

If that doesn't work, a temporary work around might be, if possible, find out what directory it is trying to write to, temporary change the directory permissions, let it install, then correct and change back the directory permissions.

Many thanks for that advice, Headrush.Booting up in OS 9 solved the problem and I now have OmniPage safely loaded.

My next problem will be making sense of the 114 page manual!

All the best,
Eric
