Can't Shutdown
I'm running a TiPowerBook G4. After upgrading the Operating System from Mac OS X 10.2.8 to Mac OS X 10.4.6 I am unable to shutdown using the Apple Menu comand. The shutdown starts but when it gets to a blank, blue screen, it hangs up. I finally have to hold the power button down about 5 seconds until shutdown occurs.
I updated to Mac OS X 10.4.10. Same problem.
This problem also occurs when I select "restart" from the Apple Menu.
All was normal prior to the OS upgrade.

Why don't you try this: push the power button and release immediately. When the new window appears in the center of your screen, just click enter to shut down. Or select restart from the various buttons in this window.
This is how I have been shutting down since I went to Panther and then to Tiger---hope it helps!!
