Ibook G4 Installer Disks....No Volumes to Install..what!?
My Ibook began having issues starting up about a week ago. All I would get was a grey screen with the finder symbol and a question mark alternating in the center of the screen. I decided to use the installer disks to try and fix this problem. The thing is, I put in the first disk and the screen says "Select a destination volume to install the Mac OS X software" but there is nothing to select, the area below it is completely blank and the continue button is not clickable. What can I do?

Replace the hard drive. It's dead.

Drive prices vary depending on size and speed. Check out Other World Computing or NewEgg for current prices. The real cost is the labor to install the new drive, as the iBook has to be disassembled.

If you are doing it yourself, refer to the guides at iFixit.

If you are paying to have it done, look at TechRestore for pricing.

If you decide to have a local shop do it, it might be best to make sure they have worked on a Mac laptop other than yours.
