Solved: Questions about an older Imac
I am a previous mac user, my last one was one of the original G3s, so I am a little out of touch.

My girlfriend has always wanted a mac and I am meeting someone in a little bit that has an Imac for sale. The owner says it is one of the original ones all-in-ones, and someone told her it is about 8 years old. My girlfriends needs and uses are very simple so this unit may work for her.

My biggest concern is the following

CD burner
USB 2.0
Wireless capability

As long as the computer has this she should be in good shape as she will only be using to feed her Ipod, update her resume and check emails.

My questions are, does an Imac of that era have a cd burner, usb 2.0 and is it possible to add a WIFI through either a usb dongle or other means? What else should I consider when looking at an older cheap mac?
Thanks

if you're looking for a wifi compatible computer you'll need something newer. Wifi for windows only stably became supported after win2000, but for the mac you can get lots of little accesories. I'd suggest you check out www.craigslist.com in your area to find a nicely affordable pc/mac in your area.

Thanks for the info. Yes I have been looking on craigslist. I also found information on the Imac online. The older Imacs have a tray for the disk, while the newer ones have a slot to insert the disks. The newer one is upgrade-able to accomodate the latest OS the older one isn't so I will be looking for a new one on CL.
