Question Apple Compatibility
My daughter just received an Apple computer. Not sure of anything else as she lives in another state. I was curious is there a way I can burn a CD or a DVD and she be able to read it on her computer? Is there a software or tool that I need to have her install on her or even my laptop to make it compatible?

Hi manomina:

She should not have any problems with DVDs.

The CDs it would depend upon what kind of files are on them. If they are a software-specific file then she would need that software to view the files. For example - if you burned her a CD of Microsoft Word documents and she doesn't have Microsoft Word for Mac, then she couldn't view them properly.

But if you burn her a CD of pictures or music, then she'll have no problem.

Hope that helps!

Ok great Yankee Rose, I appreciate that. I did notice another problem though and you may not be able to help me with, but I'll ask before making another post.

I have an HP Compaq 6515b laptop and the DVD drive says it's lightscribed and it can burn CDs and DVDs. I have installed Nero on here and I have gone through the motions of creating a CD. It does its thing and says completed....but it didn't write anything on the disk. It only prompts me to save the image file and I can not create a cd by burning the image.

I can view things in my DVD drive so is it the Nero software? Should I try another burning software or could it be a driver for my player?

I am looking at the HP page for drivers and all they have is InterVideo WinDVD Player and I already installed that so maybe it's the Nero software?

Oh, and I have the same software installed on my desktop and it works fine so I am confused.

You're referring to DVD-Video, right? A data DVD would have the same issues as a data CD, right?

Peace...

It sounds like you instructed Nero to burn a CD image instead of burning the actual CD. You should be able to have Nero create a CD from the CD image you created. Have you tried using a "create CD from image" option in Nero to burn the CD image you created to CD media? Here are some instructions that might help.

Peace...

Thank you. I think my problem is I don't have burning drivers. I mean, I have two laptops and I have installed the drivers from the HP site and all the had was drivers for the WinDVD. Both laptops when I hit "Burn" it prompts me to save (burn) an image file but will not create a burned CD. Do you think it's something like that? I can see and view CDs/DVDs in those drives tho

Have you ever burned with this drive before? How new is the system?

What are you trying to burn to DVD? Pictures? A movie? If a movie, a home movie you created from your camera/camcorder?

These laptops I am assuming are just 1-2 years old. I had to reinstall the OS and then go to HP and download drivers for them. They look like the same drive which says it can Lightscrbe, RW DVD, RW Compact Disk. Is there additional drivers I need? I am using Nero 8.1.1.4

I'm just trying to burn songs/pics and backing up my hard drive.

What type of disk are you selecting in Nero?

Ok....it was user error....I wasn't too familiar with Nero and on top of that I was using a disc that had already been used and I didn't know it. I have it working now.

Thanks to everyone that replied...
