Hey Everyone,
My brother-in-law has a Macbook and the problem we have been experiencing is that he can never connect to my wireless network. I give him the WEP key and it always displays, "Error, could not connect to network". This is very strange, as he connects to another wireless network around my home without a problem. As well, he doesn't have any problem connecting to any other network. Also, there doesn't seem to be a problem with my network, because in the same day, I connected my PS3, my friends iPod Touch and my Windows XP laptop with no problem. Does anyone know what could be causing this strange problem with his Macbook and my wireless network.

Hello:

From what I understand, you have two wireless networks in close proximity?

If that is the case and they are both the same GHz system, your brother's Airport sees that as "interference" and that is why it won't connect. (I had the exact same problem.)

Otherwise, take a look at this.

Thanks again for your help Yankee Rose. Yes, you are correct, that there is someone else on my street close by with a wireless network. What did you do to correct your problem with this? Also, I guess when he comes over again, I'll try the '$' solution to see if that works, which I found on the link you gave.

Hello again -

My problem occurred when I was installing a wireless camera system that was 2.4 GHz, as is my home network (and my router is right near my camera receiver UGG) so the way I resolved it was by changing my camera transmitter/receivers to a 900 GHz frequency. Needless to say before I figured it out I was in a panic.

I realize that may not be a feasible option for you to solve your problem, though.

Did your friend try turning the Airport off/on several times in an attempt to connect?
