Have you formatted the new HD and which format did you choose? What are the specs of the new HD/Superdrive? How much RAM and which version of OS X?

Superdrive = =8x DVD burner model UJ-875; Hardrive = Hitachi 5400rpm ATA/IDE 160 gig; RAM= 1.5 gig; OSX= 10.3 AHT v2.0.6 DVD v1.0. We have formatted the HD using Disk Utility and are using MAC OS extended journal. The disk passes verification and properly erases/formats in extended journal format.

When we boot from the OS disc, the system freezes after about 2-3 minutes, mostly on iMovies but then one some languages, last was Danish. I'm wondering if the fan is going and the computer is overheating and freezing during the install process.

We even put the original optical drive and HD back in to re-install the OS, but to no avail. The system keeps freezing.
