I just bought my first Mac. For a sense of security, I bought Norton anti-virus for Macs.

Now I'm wondering if I should get anti-spyware software. I know that Macs are more secure than PC's but should I get anti-spyware for my Mac? If so, what?

No, you really don't need anything, but there is MacScan.

by installing Norton, you actually made the mac less secure. Norton opens up security holes in the mac OS. (it patches the system kernel with its own code)

You are better with no antivirus, than Norton, very literally.

There is 1 virus in the wild for OS X right now. This is how it gets installed in your system: You are surfing porn, the porn site says you need a special codec to view said porn. You download supposed codec from the link they provide. you mount the disk image, you double click the installer that was in the disk image, it asks you for your system administrator password. Only after you provide this virus with your system administrator login and password, are you are infected.

By purchasing an antivirus for Mac at this point, you are accomplishing nothing more than wasting your money and slowing down your machine.

security on OS X is the same as any other OS in the long run. Be smart, watch what you click on, dont install or run programs from people you dont trust, and use common sense. (this espesially goes for people looking at porn, why would you click yes or install something from a porn site, when you would question something popping up on any other site. There is lots of free porn on the internet that doesnt require you to install anything on your computer, perhaps you just need to look a bit harder)
