As long as it's a legal CD, then you should be able to contact Microsoft and get the key by proving that it is legal. If not, I doubt you could get a key in a torrent/etc. without having to download the corresponding disc. You'd technically be within your rights, I believe, but it's a sensitive area.

Help, please. All of my Windows XP Home Edition info is on my PC, legit, and covers thru SP3. My legit copy of Parallels Desktop 3.0 for Mac requires a COA, and mine applies only to my Dell Dim4400 (all purchs'd new 4/3/02). How can I activate my Parallels? What MS# do I call, should I need to get a new COA or have MS unlock my Dell COA? Or where in the PC registry might I find the info, should I need to access the area wherein I can scoot around and figure it out for myself. I'm in a quandry. As I tend to become bedridden from time to time (MS), I'd love to be able to use my MPB via Parallels to access my PC Chessmaster and LTPB (Bridge) games. It's the 21st century-----all this access rigamarole needs to benefit us, the legit purchasers of "whatever",---------PERIOD! )))) Rhetorically speaking, am I being too naive? Thanks forever.

do you have an authentic serial number and CD for each installation of windows you are running. if you have two separate installations of windows virtualized on parallels, you will need TWO CDs and serials for those two separate virtualizations.

if so, just use the activate by phone option in the activation dialog.

Arrow Thanks for replying
I have the # from the side of my Dell computer and the original reinstallation disk that came w/my Dell Dim4400, and my Parallels Desktop for Mac 3.0 retail purchase. As for any telephone contact #'s, I have nothing, and have no idea where to obtain such a thing. There must be a way to overcome this problem; I can't be the only person in this dilemma. Except for the fact that the companies are making lots of money anyway, you'd think the Parallels company would be at the very least --- miffed. ;\

if i am correct, you just said you only have ONE authentic copy of windows. im pretty sure that parallels or vmware fusion expect you to buy a separate copy of windows and do not actually come witht he microsoft operating systems.

as for the number to call, after you freshly install windows you can find the icon of a set of keys in the taskbar OR you can click on start > all programs and find the same icon with a activate windows label at the top of the list

Grrrr! I already have everything XP Windows on my PC. I can't just blow another $200+ on a 2nd Windows program. If I knew how to slipstream what I have on my PC to make an XP disc to use, I'd do it; but, I don't know what to to or how to do it. You're correct about the 2nd XP copy. Dell's solution to my COA dilemma was to buy another XP program, and I guess I was blinded by frustration and rage about it. Thank you again for helping me. )
